Music Knowledge 1

Through out my career as a DJ for the last 20 years the most important part of it was music knowledge. Now let me explain why, it's important to be able to play the right kind of music at the right venue.

You can't play rocking EDM at a restaurant when people are eat or vice versa. So it's really important to have music knowledge.

Now there are a few websites to find music:

1. Beatport - https://www.beatport.com/

2. Traxsource - https://www.traxsource.com/

3. Junodownload - https://www.junodownload.com/

4. Bandcamp - https://bandcamp.com/  (Which I'm using mostly to find music not release on the above sites) Which will set you apart from other DJs.

and many more, you should really consider buying music as it helps the artist who produce them. From these sites you can learn about different artist and their style of music (which I will touch on in my next post.

Keep an open mind and listen to all types of music cause you may never know when you are going to need to refer back. If of course your main objective of becoming a DJ is that you love music.

Here are other sources of music knowledge:

1. https://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_disco-songs.html

2. https://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_rb-song-90s.html

Listen to them carefully, you may even try to do a mix with these tracks.

Lastly have fun listening to music don't just stick to one genre until you have experience everything. Cause I didn't, I dabbled on 80's pop, 90's pop, 70's disco, hip hop, R&B, House, Techno, Tech house, EDM and discovered lots of artist and labels. It was a magical journey that took me places and in turn I DJed at lots of different venues and events.
